Optimal Answers for a Team Leader Role
Option 1: Strategic vs. Tactical (Addressing your previous feedback)
Since your previous feedback mentioned a "lack of strategic mindset," this is a high-level way to show you are working on exactly what they want.
"My supervisor would say that because I am so deeply involved in the day-to-day technical troubleshooting as a Plus Advisor, I sometimes focus too much on the tactical fix rather than the strategic overview. I've recognized this, so recently I’ve started setting aside time each week to analyze the broader KPI trends of the team. This helps me move from just 'fixing' a case to identifying a 'pattern' that requires a team-wide coaching session. My supervisor has noticed that my recent reports now include more long-term suggestions for operational improvement."
Option 2: Delegation (Crucial for new Team Leaders)
Moving from Mentor to TL requires letting go of doing everything yourself.
"My supervisor has pointed out that because I have a high level of expertise in Shopify’s regulations, I sometimes have a tendency to 'take over' a complex case myself to ensure it’s done perfectly, rather than letting a mentee struggle through it. We discussed that for me to be an effective leader, I need to delegate more. I have since adjusted my approach: now, when an agent comes to me with a complex store move, I guide them through the checklist and observe them doing it, rather than doing it for them. This has increased the technical confidence of the agents I support."
Option 3: Public Speaking/Presentation
If the role involves presenting to managers or clients.
"If you asked my supervisor, they would say I’m very confident in one-on-one coaching, but I used to be more reserved when presenting data to the broader leadership team. I realized that as a Team Leader, I need to be a voice for my team. To improve, I’ve been proactively taking the lead on our morning huddles and drafting the weekly performance summaries. It’s helped me become much more comfortable translating floor data into clear, actionable insights for management."
